In July 2024, Lawyer Shi Jianfu, Senior Partner of Shanghai TYGlobe Law Firm, together with teachers and students from the School of Criminal Justice of East China University of Political Science and Law, embarked on a trip to Xingjie Town, Xichou County, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, and launched this year's "Next Stop Departure" Voluntary Teaching Program.

The Light of the Rule of Law Safeguards Growth

"Knowledge can change one's fate, and fate is held in one's own hands," Lawyer Shi said earnestly to the children in front of the Party and Mass Service Center of Xinxing Community, Xichou County. Hectic daily schedules and complicated commercial disputes have never dimmed the pure and dazzling light of public welfare in Lawyer Shi's heart. He has been committed to voluntary teaching for 18 consecutive years. In 2007, Lawyer Shi co-launched the "Next Stop: Departure" voluntary teaching program together with the School of Criminal Law of East China University of Political Science and Law. This year marks the 16th time he has traveled to remote regions to carry out voluntary teaching activities. The "Next Stop: Departure" voluntary teaching program not only shoulders the important responsibility of imparting knowledge, but also embodies the fine vision of lighting up the light of life ideals for children in remote areas. Lawyer Shi is not only a defender of the dignity of the law, but also a staunch supporter of China's poverty alleviation through education cause. With a heart dedicated to public welfare, he has actively engaged in education subsidy work, guarded the learning and growth path of children in remote areas, and become the "light of the rule of law" in the hearts of the children.

On July 9, under the guidance of community cadres, the volunteer teaching team held a simple yet solemn launching ceremony at the Party Building Center of Xinxing Community, where they officially met the 58 students participating in this volunteer teaching program. Lawyer Shi shared his personal growth experience with the children. Through his own real-life experience, he told the children that knowledge can change cognition and alter fate, and that even if they live in impoverished areas, they should never give up their thirst for knowledge. He also instructed the children to love themselves, love their families, and show kindness to strangers when they are capable, so as to carry forward the humanistic care spirit of the Chinese nation embodied in the traditional precept of "Honor the aged of one's own family and extend this honor to those of other families; love the young of one's own family and extend this love to those of other families."

Set Sail with Solid Practice, Achieve Long-term Development through Steady Progress

Students from the School of Criminal Justice of East China University of Political Science and Law have grasped the profound meaning of "writing theses on the land of China" through this precious social practice opportunity. Within just seven days, the members of the volunteer teaching team carefully prepared rich and varied course contents. Covering both regular courses on history, geography, biology, music, fine arts and other subjects, and featured courses including law popularization courses, calligraphy courses, handicraft courses and safety education courses, the curriculum offered has helped the participating children broaden their horizons, enhance their self-confidence and improve their teamwork capabilities. Every member of the volunteer teaching team hopes that through their efforts, they can plant seeds of hope in the children's hearts, inspire them to change their own destinies through hard work and embrace a happier future.

From the halls of academia to rural classrooms, from knowledge acquisition to cultural dissemination, from receiving care to proactive contribution, the students who have long been immersed in the "ivory tower" have finally set sail from the gentle harbor of legal studies, and gone through practical tempering in the vast social classroom. This experience will enable the students to gain a more profound understanding of society, forge their convictions, and make further and more solid progress on their future path of study and life.

Pave the Way with Knowledge, Move out of Mountainous Regions

Xichou County, despite its picturesque natural scenery, is plagued by a relative shortage of educational resources due to geographical isolation, and children's dreams there are often constrained by practical barriers. The significance of volunteer teaching activities lies not in imparting basic subject knowledge, but more importantly in stimulating children's enthusiasm for learning and curiosity about the outside world. Lawyer Shi told the children that he had proved through his own actions that the power of knowledge is sufficient to penetrate range upon range of mountains and enable people to step onto a broader stage of life.

The "young teachers" of the volunteer teaching corps have developed a variety of interesting courses, including *American Geography*, *Recitation Course*, *I Am a Little Host*, *Aerospace Course*, *Fun Dubbing*, *Cheerleading Instruction* and so on. These courses enable children to fully experience the vastness and splendor of the ocean of knowledge. The special "red education" course *Red Keychain*, in particular, has cleansed children's souls and helped them foster correct ideals and convictions. The preparation and performance of the summer gala have taught children to persevere and cooperate, and further learn how to shine their own light on the stage. The belief of "walking out of the mountains" has sprouted in children's hearts.

Shanghai-Yunnan Cooperation: Profound Friendship Across Mountains and Seas

This voluntary teaching program has received strong support from the Xichou County Committee of the Communist Youth League of China. On July 9, the first day of the program, Comrade Yang Shili, Secretary of the Wenshan Prefectural Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, and Comrade Yu Zhen, Member of the Standing Committee of the Xichou County Committee of the Communist Party of China and Deputy Mayor of Xichou County, visited the voluntary teaching team in Xinxing Community and extended greetings to the team. The two officials also convened a symposium, in which they expressed welcome and gratitude to the voluntary teaching team.

Since 1996 when the Central Government designated Shanghai to provide paired assistance to Yunnan Province, exchanges and interactions between Shanghai and Yunnan in all sectors and at all levels have continued to this day. A profound friendship has been forged between officials and the public of the two localities, and a series of remarkable achievements have been jointly made in industrial cooperation, employment assistance, consumption-driven assistance and other fields. The paired assistance between Shanghai and Xichou County in areas including education, healthcare, agriculture and employment has further fostered a deep "Mountain-Sea Bond" between the two sides. This volunteer teaching program has contributed to educational exchanges between the two places, adding a brilliant and significant chapter to the heartwarming picture of the profound "Mountain-Sea Bond".

The 16th "Embark on the Next Stop" Volunteer Teaching Program has been successfully concluded, yet the transmission of love and hope will never cease. The volunteer teaching team spent unforgettable time with local children, forging profound friendships and leaving behind wonderful memories.
